If you can’t be published in the “real world” then why not do it in cyberspace? You may have to jump in the blogging bandwagon. Bloggers are like online columnists and their blogs are their online columns. Since blogging standards are quite loose (although a certain code of ethics should still be followed and more of this in later posts), bloggers can choose the theme, the content, and the style of their blogs without an editor snooping behind him. You also don’t have to pay much. If you have a computer with internet connection, then you’re all set. Just check several sites on the web that offers free blogging space.

A website was launched this week for punters who fancy a go at creating software for vintage Acorn 8-bit hardware. RetroSoftware.co.uk was set up to give a helping hand to anyone who wants to take a nostalgic trip back to the days of hacking together 6502 assembler code or wants to experience writing for 1980s microcomputer hardware for the first time. Beta testers, musicians, artists and illustrators and other contributors are also welcome to join in, we’re told.

It’s hoped the site will reach a point where it can begin publishing users’ software with proper disc releases and printed materials, just like the good old days when the Acorn Beeb ruled the classroom and fought against the ZX81 for a place in every British living room.

Determine your audience. Is it for kids or for adults? Do you need to put Parental Guidance signs? What language would you use? Will your target readers access your site in school, in the office, or at home? Will your site be viewed by users with slow Internet connection?

Are these questions important? Yes! The design and content of your site will largely depend on whatever answers you come up with.

Make sure that the site is organized. Users will not return to your site if they get confused navigating through it. Besides, an organized design would also be easier to maintain. You can easily add or change the design and content eventually. The best way to insure this is to create a diagram on the flow of information that will be used in your site. The simpler you make it, the easier it is for you as the designer and also for your readers.

If you have no idea yet on how to start, research. Visit similar sites and take note of how they are designed and presented. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you copy them. But at least you’ll get an idea on now to go about your own site.

Don’t forget to read up on new innovations. The Internet is pretty much fast when it comes to introducing new web services and internet applications that can be good additions to your site. In other words, try to keep up with the changes.

Ahh… what is considered plagiarism in Web 2.0? Difficult since most if not all blogs tend to get information from other blogs of the same niche. You really don’t have to ask permission if you are to link to the other site. After all, the Web 2.0 Culture promotes freedom in information exchange. Despite this, it is always nice and ethical to inform the writer or webmaster of a particular blog if you mean to link to it (which can always be reciprocated by a link-back) or if you are to get a lot of information, most especially original content, from his site.

Most original graphics (static and animated) and text are under the protection of U.S. and international copyright laws. In this case, research first on where or whom to get the necessary permission to reproduce the particular text or graphics. Free information exchange does not equal to plagiarism.

Mashables allows people to get content, interact and get feedback in real time though more reserved for enterprise use but has part of it’s system based on the social web. The social internet is seen as the next trend for data mining for this is where people spend more time and is where accurate data regarding them and their habits online can be quantified thus measured for appropriate analysis.
Web publishing has never been the same when the internet became social for it allowed them to not only get information but let the publishers know what they felt about the said news through feedback that is then used to analyze further content delivery. There was a time when people got content whether it was useful for them of not, CMS allows customized delivery and analytics, it all comes together for effective and thus efficient content management.

One of the most important things you should remember in web publishing is to always have original content. Plagiarism is frowned upon, and only results in your website obtaining a bad reputation, which will eventually kill it in the long run.

If you aren’t confident about making your own content, then you can enlist someone else to do your writing for you. Just make sure that any content submitted to you – or even the stuff you write yourself – passes a plagiarism checker to see whether your content has already been published on the web.

Besides, people always love reading original content, and as long as you keep posting something new regularly, people are bound to come back because it’s something they won’t find anywhere else.

The only problem is that like the many online publishers they can’t seem to make up their mind or at least agree on some points. The rule of the newsprint may be numbered and with good reason, the world is getting hotter by the day with the advent of global warming due to deforestation for the use of these printing giants. Book publishers have gone ahead and jumped onto the online publishing bandwagon but will the thousands of newspapers find the heart to consider going online? They may have no choice for the odds are against them for more and more people rely on the internet for their news leaving them high and dry. They’d better make up their minds fast for the internet won’t be waiting for them.

There will be some cases where you’ve gotten so many blogs that it’s scattered everywhere, or you’re planning to move back to blogger after your short stint with other blogging platforms. Well, Blogger has a new feature that makes that all easy and more:

The import/export feature opens up a whole new range of portability for your blogs, as well as allows for a few new options in the blog creation process. To get you started, we’ve rounded up a handful of ideas that can be done with importing and exporting:

    * Merge two or more blogs into one. Have a few scattered blogs and want to get a fresh start? Now you can combine comments and posts from multiple blogs into a brand new blog.
* Move individual posts from blog to blog. Cross-publish your posts on multiple blogs, or transfer large batches of posts from one blog to another with a single click.
* Back up your blog to your own storage. It’s never a bad idea to create backup copies of your own content, and now you can easily export an archival copy of your blog to your hard drive with a simple tool.
* Move your blog somewhere else. Our standard Atom XML export format will open up new blogging channels between providers, and let you take your content with you should you decide to move somewhere else. And of course, if you decide to come back to Blogger, importing your export file will get you back up and running in seconds.

As of the moment, it’s only available for Blogger blogs.
